Let's Not Be Crotchety Old Ladies About This Ya'll!

We're going to do this together. I am giving in. I'm going to embrace change and yet another thing to add to my to-do list. We are going to stop being Twitanoias and get with times!

The Purple Pea (ie me) is joining Twitter. And we're going to update and Tweet and whatnot.

I've done a bit of research and I'm going to break down the basics of "Tweeting" and understanding what the hell "Twits" are saying on "Twitter" { " " "}

First, let's talk about the '@'

This gets tricky. Lets say I am replying to Gabe, my husband. And I say "I am tired and @gabe you are right, you smell" I'm designating that I am addressing Gabe or replying to something Gabe Tweeted.

If I start the Tweet by saying "@gabe you smell" it'll show up in Gabe's main time line if I'm following Gabe and he'll also see it in his replies tab.

One last thing I learned: say I Tweet "@gabe I love you" and Jovie is also following me but not Gabe {because he didn't give her cookies} Because she's not following Gabe, she's not going to see the "@gabe I love you." Only the Twits following Gabe will. Also if you type a "D + username " instead of the '@' it's show up as private message.

Here is where we learned about the '@'

Moving on

Here's a easy one: When you see "RT" this means someone is reposting a Tweet from someone else. Usually {hopefully} a piece of useful information. So say Gabe posted something so incredible, I just had to share it with everyone. You'd type "RT @gabe my wife is amazing!"

Here is where we learned about "RT".

I see this "#" {hashtag} all the time. If you use the hashtag before a word on a Tweet, it'll create a tag for that word. So for example if I say "The Purple Pea just bought stock in #spray paint" when someone searches for "spray paint" this Tweet will pop up. If you follow "Hashtags" on Twitter it will automatically update and add your Tweet to it's database at www.hashtags.org. If you visit hashtags.org, you can click on any tag and it will show you all of the posts that have been tagged with that keyword.

Got it? Kinda, not really?

I think we've covered the basics, although I have no idea what I'm doing, so I guess we'll find out.

I've put up a little "Follow Me!" button over there to the right along with a Tweet Roll. Any excuse to add more bird love on my blog is of course always welcome right?

So let's follow each other and figure all of this out together. We're not here to judge. We are here to Tweet. Go ahead and click the button. You follow me and I'll follow you.

@alltwoofmyreaders I love both of you! We can learn this language called "Twitter" together

Excellent, glad to finally know some of this stuff! My tweeting skills are subpar, so this was definitely a much-needed tutorial. Love your bird button, I've got to learn how to make those things!
