Day Dream Believer

What if you were lucky enough not to work? What if you had unlimited time to yourself and disposable income?

What in the world would you do?

I day dream all the time what I would do with my days. I would sleep in until 8, learn how to cook, walk my dogs {might even walk on my treadmill} and maybe tend my flowers. I would sew, I would go thrift shopping and redo stuff all day long. That is my perfect day.

I'd love to open a cute little shop and sell some of the redo stuff. More furniture type stuff than the small things.

Could you even imagine?

This is a normal day for me:

I'll preface this by saying no, I do not have kids {by choice} so I can't imagine throwing kids in the mix. The dogs are all I can handle and they are like have 2 two year olds.

Get up at 6:30
Let dogs out
Go up and shower and blow dry my hair
Come down to feed the dogs and potty
Go back up to do my hair, makeup and get dressed.
Kiss husband goodbye as he walks out the door
Leave the house and turn the Catholic Radio Network on for the dogs {so they have some sort of noise during the day. I'll come home to nuns one day}
Drive 45 minutes in traffic with crazy kamikaze drivers.

Work 8 hours which consists of dealing with employee's all day long. You can't even imagine sometimes.

Get home at 6:30
Make dinner {usually salads because I can't cook very well}
Clean up dishes
Water plants {which takes 30 mins}
Maybe spray paint some of my thrift finds
Sit down at the computer and read stuff on Reader
It's 10:00 at this point, so dogs out to potty
Upstairs to wash face and get ready for bed
In bed by 10:45 if I'm lucky.

And it all starts again the next day. Don't get me wrong! I am extremely lucky to have my job! But for the sake of daydreaming humor me.

I completely lose track of time. I do the same thing day in and day out. Before you know it, a year has gone by! Has this ever happened to you? Is this old age?! I've always heard my grandmother say "Just wait until you get older, time flies"

What would YOU do if you could do whatever you wanted? Would you take up school again? Open your own business? Maybe try your hand at a cake decorating class or a Yoga class?

I totally feel where you're coming from!!! I can't tell you how long I've felt that way - actually, that's a lie - it's been 3 years. I recently took action (!) and I'm not quite ready yet to spill the beans, but I'll keep you posted. :) I hope you take action, too - life's too short!!

That is so how I feel most days but I too am glad to have a job in these crazy times.

great post. It's always good to rethink a little bit and think about what our passions or dreams are.

I'd like to start a small cottage industry for some of the things I'd like to make. Maybe start an Etsy store. :)

oh man...I LOVE this question.

First I'd quit my job.
Second take my kid to Disneyland.
Third buy a big house
Fourth pay all my debts off
Fifth buy my mom and stepdad a house on the beach
Sixth Be with my kid all the time.

I could go on and on and on...

Very timely, don't you think??

I love this question. I have thought for a long time what my perfect day would be. I have a great life now but there is a little (ok, a big!) part of me that wants to do almost exactly what you want to do! I dream of opening a little shop with two of my sisters where we sell a mix of new, local handmade and our own redo stuff. We have a workroom out the back where we sit and make stuff all day when not tending to the shop front. I even imagine a section set up for my kids to come and do their homework after school and hang out making stuff with me too. I have the details of this shop so vivid in my mind that I have about 6 shop window displays worked out, I can see the wall colours, the lighting, the displays, the counters, etc. I actually keep a running list of all the products I want to have in it also. I am sure going to enjoy it when I finally get it (positive thinking!!). Maybe I should open an Etsy shop in the meantime...

Completely hear you...time DOES go faster as we get older and now that I don't have school years to track the time...I just seem to lose it.

If I didn't have to work, I'd definitely go back to school and get a PhD in something completely useless like Roman law or Medieval History. I love the idea of just tooling around a gorgeous college campus, reading in cafes on sunny days, and doing 90% of the work in the last 10%.

I am so glad to see I'm not the only person on this planet that feels this way! These are great ideas and I truly hope every single one of you live our your dream.

And Liz, I just subscribed to the blog you suggested and watched the video. Completely inspirational. Thanks for sharing :)

Your dream life sounds great. I have that song stuck in my head now, Daydream believer. It is hard time goes by so fast & there's not enough hrs in the day. I'm a sahm & never get to finish everything.
